I was out for my daily walk with Charles along the lakeshore today and it was such a dark and dreary day that I ran home and grabbed my camera. These shots aren’t the most uplifting, but for anyone who enjoys a good rainy day (despite it being mid-January) these images surely have a certain appeal.

All of these images are reposts ranging from several walkabouts scattered over the last few years. I recently received a request from a PR representative on behalf of a Toronto-based architectural firm in conjunction with the Toronto Society of Architects to submit some of my architectural work for a display to be shown at the Harbourfront Centre starting September 30, 2011. These are some of the images I considered for the exhibit.

Harbourfront has invited architecture firms including RAW, Architects Alliance, KPMB and visual artist Douglas Walker to engage the public in a debate on the role, benefit and beauty of tall buildings.

After a relaxing day reading on the dock, I picked up my camera after dinner and took a walk around the cottage with Charles. He’s four years old now and finally patient enough to just lay down and take a break when I stop to take photos on our way. Anyone who’s enjoyed walks with a dog and camera will likely understand that taking photos with a young dog around can often be a difficult task. When you bend down to snap a photo, they’re right there in your face looking for attention or getting excited that you’re bending down to their level.

 
I could post a lot more photos from this series, but this few really cover the group pretty well. It was one of those mid-summer evenings with the sun just beginning to touch the horizon and a beautiful time to shoot.

I was at the cottage just getting ready to start the barbecue for dinner when my wife noticed this guy clinging to the side of the deck. He ended up hanging around for quite a while and over the course of our dinner he had changed his colours enough to more closely resemble the colour of the wood on the deck. Turns out he wasn’t a fan of corn, steak or a mosquito I had squashed when he tried to feast on my arm.

Looked so serene and peaceful… the water had just settled into a perfect sheet of glass for the night and we were heading back to camp to make dinner. The water was so smooth in fact that even at the 15-20km/h we were zipping by at, we could see the pollen and bugs scattered across the surface of the water 50 feet ahead of us.

Truly one of those moments you just have to take in because no picture, however great, will never do it justice.

I was in Mexico at the end of April for one of my best friend’s wedding. One day before the wedding we took the ferry across from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel and rented a Jeep for the afternoon to tour around the entire island along the coastal highway. Believe it or not, this appears to be someone’s home on the Atlantic side Cozumel, Mexico.

I shot this while travelling along at about 90km/h in a beat up old Jeep. This was just before the two guys piled on a moped passed us with beer in hand and sharing a joint, no helmets of course.

The calm before what was to become a 12-hour thunderstorm a friend and I weathered in a tent on Rabbit Lake, Temagami.

While on a fishing trip to Rabbit Lake, Temagami, we took some time to get out of the boat and hike down a trail that lead to the bottom of this dam. What was more interesting what the remnants of the original damn that we strewn all over the site. I imagine when this damn was built, the old wooden timbers form the original were just cast aside to rot away.

While in Mexico this past April for one of my best friend’s weddings, we took a day and rented a Jeep on the island of Cozumel and toured the island along the coastal highway. I snapped this photo from the Jeep as we were motoring along.
